About — The artist

Hubert-Félix Thiéfaine, born on 21 July 1948 in Dole (Jura), is a French singer-songwriter and poet.

He was discovered in 1978 with his debut studio album Tout corps vivant branché sur le secteur étant appelé à s'émouvoir, and has enjoyed a long career, crowned in 2011 with Suppléments de mensonge, his sixteenth album, which earned him a double win at the 2012 Victoires de la Musique. He is also a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters.

Although rarely seen in mainstream media, Hubert-Félix Thiéfaine has enjoyed major success since the start of his career: nearly all his albums have been certified gold and his concerts regularly sell out thanks to the loyalty and devotion of his fanbase. This makes him one of the singular figures of French song, and his promotional methods laid the groundwork for the new French scene.

His literary, musical, cinematic and historical culture plays with diverse references. Thiéfaine writes his lyrics alone and composes part of the music; the second half of his career is notably marked by regular collaboration with singer-songwriters Arman Méliès and J. P. Nataf, as well as his son Lucas Thiéfaine, himself a guitarist.

The enigmatic, personal dimension of his lyrics is appreciated by his fanbase. The media regularly describe him as a poet. His body of work has even been the subject of several academic studies, whether articles, conferences, or even a doctoral thesis in French literature defended in October 2025.
