About — The artist
Imarhan (in Tifinagh: ⵉⵎⴰⵔⵀⴰⵏ) is an Algerian music group of Tuareg origin from Tamanrasset, in southern Algeria.
Imarhan represents the new generation of Tuareg music. Their "desert blues" style, infused with rock and groove, is called Assouf or Tichoumaren by the Ishumar Tuaregs, who play Tuareg music as a symbol of resistance.
The group's name comes from Tamasheq or Tamahaq, meaning "those who love each other, who associate with each other and are sincere."
The group consists of 5 members who co-write the lyrics, including the 2 guitarists: Sadam, lead vocalist and guitarist, and Kada, guitarist, both accompanied by Hicham when he is not on drums, the percussionist Haibbalah who alternates between calabash and djembe, the bassist Tahar, and the drummer Hicham.
The 5 members also provide backing vocals and handclaps on various tracks.
Other members are sometimes present, notably on the track Tellalt (Live from Aboogi Studio):
Mohammed Hassan – handclaps and backing vocals.
The group is regularly produced by the German label City Slang (Maxime Kosinetz, Patrick Votan, Elliott Mattiussi, and Elsa Pennacchio).
Arte dedicated a live concert to them on November 18, 2025, "les Concerts Volants du Cabaret Sauvage," and made the re-broadcast available online on arte.fr.
In 2026, the group Imarhan will embark on a tour to introduce their latest album, Essam, and its new electro sounds mixed with Assouf, characteristic of the Algerian Tuareg combo.
France Musique will dedicate an interview to them in December 2025.
