About — The artist
James William Marriott (born 7 July 1997) is an English musician and YouTuber born in Switzerland. He is best known for his album Don't Tell the Dog, which reached number one on the UK charts in 2025, and for the single "California Rain", which entered the top 40 in 2026. Earlier, his album Are We There Yet? had peaked at number 17 on the UK album charts in 2023, and the single "I Don't Want to Live Like This" at number 67 on the UK singles charts.
After posting instrumental acoustic music videos, he attracted attention by turning to videos of scathing commentary on YouTube and live broadcasts on Twitch. He distanced himself from YouTube to devote himself to music full time, and released his first single, "Slow Down", in May 2020. This was followed by the EPs No Left Brain and Bitter Tongues. His debut album, Are We There Yet?, came out in 2023, and his second, Don't Tell the Dog, in 2025.
He cites Foals and The Strokes as major influences; his music is generally described as indie rock. In 2025, he founded the iced coffee brand Rodd's with his close friend and frequent collaborator WillNE.
