About — The artist

King Earthquake is a Sound System founded by Errol Arawak. Originally composed of 6 members, King Earthquake was created in 1977. At the age of 17, Errol left school and quickly began performing in clubs. At the time, the sound system was called "Mighty Earthquake". Events followed one another, as did his first (unwilling) clashes, from which he often emerged victorious. He quickly renamed himself "King Earthquake".

At that time, reggae was evolving towards more digital and faster sounds, more dancehall, both in Jamaica and the United Kingdom. It mattered little to him; King Earthquake continued to play Roots & Culture. But nothing worked; more classic Reggae nights emptied out and the audience no longer followed.

King Earthquake resigned himself and ceased his musical activities around the mid-1980s. Fifteen years later, with the arrival of the year 2000, Errol decided to give himself another chance to convince a growing Reggae audience. Mission accomplished if we look at his journey since then: festivals, parties, international-level events, ...

He has since added two additional dimensions to his career: his weekly radio shows (every Monday evening on Jamradio in Birmingham), and from 2005 to the present day, about twenty compositions on his own music label, as well as the production of other Reggae musicians.
