About — The artist

Swell is an American indie rock band from San Francisco, California. It was formed in 1989 by guitarist David Freel and drummer Sean Kirkpatrick, later joined by bassist Monte Vallier. The band is known for its determination to produce its own music, which makes it a pioneer of the Lo-Fi movement. It developed an original style built on the contrast between the energy of electric guitars and a softer acoustic guitar, David Freel's spoken-sung vocals, and ambient sounds that create an atmosphere approaching psychedelia.
