The Strokes is an American rock band from New York. Formed in 1998, it rose to prominence in the early 2000s as one of the leading bands of the garage rock revival and post-punk revival movement. They are often regarded as the heirs to the Velvet Underground and Television, the bands from which the group primarily draws its inspiration.
