About — The artist
Yasuaki Shimizu (清水靖晃, Shimizu Yasuaki, born August 9, 1954) is a Japanese saxophonist and composer who has released around twenty original albums since 1978. He is known for his reinterpretations of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach on tenor saxophone, notably his rearrangement of the solo cello suites. Specialized in acid jazz, he has composed and produced for artists as diverse as singer Helen Merrill, composer Ryūichi Sakamoto and DJ Towa Tei.
He is also known for composing the soundtracks of numerous films, notably Symbol and the film adaptation of Clamp's manga X, as well as the 1980s French films Gros Dégueulasse and Havre. Yasuaki Shimizu has lived in Paris, London and Tokyo.
