Youssou N'Dour, born on 1 October 1959 in Dakar (Senegal), is a Senegalese singer-songwriter, musician, and politician.
Known as the "King of Mbalax" in Senegal and an internationally renowned African singer, he also became a press magnate in 2003 with the founding of the Futurs Médias group. He became involved in the anti-Wade movement and, as part of the Mbaye government, served as Senegal's Minister of Culture and Tourism from 4 April 2012, then as Minister of Tourism and Leisure from 29 October 2012 to 2 September 2013, before being appointed as Minister-Advisor to President Macky Sall.
