In brief
The Hungarian pianist András Schiff is one of the outstanding musicians of his generation, and rightly so! He was schooled under the finest of teachers, and while studying the piano, his teacher, the great Hungarian composer György Kurtág, insisted that he "sing the music". Schiff attributes his greatest progress to this method, which he maintains to this day – it is hardly surprising, then, that he is a remarkable accompanist of lieder. He has, in a sense, devoted his life to the "great classics" and enjoys a special relationship, both at the keyboard and on the podium, with the works and worlds of Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann and Schubert. Tonight, the demonstration.
