Asmik Grigorian

Asmik Grigorian soprano Lukas Geniušas piano The exceptional voice of Asmik Grigorian, one of the most daring talents on today's classical stage.

Programme Rachmaninov Songs and pieces for piano In a nutshell The Lithuanian soprano Asmik Grigorian performs on the stages of the world's greatest institutions, such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Paris Opera (Puccini's Il Trittico) or the Royal Opera House in London.

She is therefore accustomed to performing on the great opera stages, but tonight she is here in the intimate setting of a recital, accompanied by the piano of Lukas Geniušas, for a lesson on Rachmaninov's songs.

A contemporary of Ravel, Bartók and Schoenberg, Rachmaninov remains a composer of songs with an inexhaustible and moving inventiveness. His songs span 1890 to 1916, the moment when he left his native land.

Demanding about literary quality, his songs feature prominently Pushkin and Lermontov, but also some of his contemporaries.

While one can detect certain musical memories of Tchaikovsky or Rimsky-Korsakov, he adorns them with a whole range of very personal shades that make it a body of work of great coherence and delicacy. Production Théâtre des Champs-Élysées
