Concertantes - Mozart, Ehwa Hong, Stravinsky

More than two hundred and fifty years after its composition, Mozart's Symphonie concertante for winds remains shrouded in mystery. The parts were lost when they were sent for copying, and the composer proposed to rewrite them. However, no trace of such a manuscript survives, and it is not really known where the score that "resurfaced" at the end of the nineteenth century came from. The soloists of the Orchestre de chambre de Paris are the performers of this version with flute, reconstructed by Robert Levin.

Stravinsky also gave the concertante form to one of his early works, the Danses concertantes, completed on the North American continent. Every section of the orchestra is invited to join the dance, vying with one another in playful solos with strong sonic identities.

From Mozart to Stravinsky, a new work by Ehwa Hong, commissioned by the Orchestre de chambre de Paris, explores cultural mirror-play: otherness, influence and complementarity from one continent to the other.
