In the first half of the programme: Stravinsky, The Rite of Spring
In a few words
An evening of Stravinsky that invites us to make a bold leap, as we set out to unravel the mystery of Sophocles' tragedy as reworked by Jean Cocteau, then surrender ourselves to the orchestral torrent of The Rite of Spring. One composer and two works almost forty years apart: two quite distinct musical galaxies. The first openly claims a "classicism", while the second bears the traces of its "native land", so present during the Ballets Russes years of Diaghilev. A fascinating demonstration of Stravinsky's genius.
