Overview
Don GiovanniWolfgang Amadeus MozartOpéra Bastille Duration: 3h20 with 1 interval Language: Italian Surtitles: French / English Who is Don Juan?
An eternal question, as this character, seen across the ages as a "great lord and wicked man", a charming seducer or a toxic predator, resists any definitive label.
In his opera, first performed in Prague in 1787 with the complicity of his librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart does not resolve the contradictions of Don Giovanni but fixes the myth through its expressive power and tragic depth.
From the breathtaking overture to the fatal dinner with the Commendatore, passing through the catalogue aria, his dramma giocoso, a subtle blend of comedy and drama, leaves no one unscathed.
Director Louisa Proske, making her debut at the Opéra national de Paris, sets the action in a grand hotel, a place capable of transgressing social structures and revealing the most buried desires of the protagonists.
