Overview
Le TrouvèreGiuseppe VerdiOpéra Bastille Duration: 2h50 with 1 interval Language: Italian Surtitles: French / EnglishThe story could hardly be simpler: a nobleman, the Count di Luna, and a troubadour, Manrico, both desire the same woman, Leonora.
But this classic rivalry is compounded by a vendetta spanning two generations, seasoned with witchcraft, a pyre and babies swapped at birth. Far-fetched? No matter!
Le Trouvère is one of three masterpieces that Giuseppe Verdi created with great success in the 1850s, alongside Rigoletto and La Traviata. Its success owes much to a keen sense of drama and to a fiery score that transcends the libretto.
At the height of his artistic maturity, Verdi gives each of the protagonists arias of breathtaking beauty, and the choruses a moment of true anthology.
The director Alex Ollé sets the action against the backdrop of the First World War, which lends credibility to the extreme situations the characters face.
