Overview
In George II's British kingdom, Handel's majestic music sets the rhythm of the political calendar. In 1727, Zadok accompanies the coronation of the sovereign, while in 1749 the "Music for the Royal Fireworks" celebrates the peace of Aix-la-Chapelle. Messiah embodies the archetype of the English oratorio; its jubilant "Alleluia" ranks among the monuments of the musical heritage. A selection of arias and orchestral pieces echoes the ceremonial choruses. A repertoire as virtuosic as it is inspired, marvellously served by Jeanine De Bique.
In 1786, the inhabitants of Prague gave a warm welcome to Mozart's works. By way of thanks, he offered them an unpublished composition, the Symphony No. 38. By bringing together these works of celebration, the Orchestre de chambre de Paris and its music director Thomas Hengelbrock conceive the concert as a fireworks display.
The programme:
MOZART: Symphony No. 38 in D major, "Prague", K. 504
HANDEL: Music for the Royal Fireworks, HWV 351

Suite of arias and orchestral pieces
