The premiere took place in 1733 and was a great success, with the work performed over 120 times between 1733 and 1767 (though with many revisions over the years).
Of the thirty or so works he would compose for the lyrical stage, Hippolyte and the three tragedies that followed, Castor et Pollux, Dardanus and Zoroastre, established him as Lully's true successor. Production Théâtre des Champs-Élysées
