In brief
The continuation of Igor Levit's exploration of the heart of Beethoven's sonatas. Five new works, including the celebrated No. 26. Beethoven composed this piece at the moment when Archduke Rudolph, his patron and pupil, left Vienna to escape the Napoleonic armies. Subtitled "Les Adieux" (in French), it is his only sonata openly inspired by an extra-musical source. We are here faced with an expressive work of grand style, of exceptional technical difficulty and remarkable richness of invention.
