In a few words
Igor Levit continues his exploration of Beethoven's sonatas. Five new opuses, including the famous No. 26. Beethoven composed this piece when Archduke Rudolph, his patron and pupil, left Vienna to escape Napoleon's armies. Subtitled “Les Adieux” (in French), it is his only sonata openly inspired by an extra-musical source. This is an expressive work of grand style, of exceptional technical difficulty and remarkable richness of invention.
