Inferno - Création Visuelle

Dante in 360° – 10 years of the Auditorium

On 21 April 2017, Laurence Equilbey conducted the opening concert of La Seine Musicale at the head of Insula orchestra. Ten years later, the orchestra is celebrating this anniversary with a creation designed especially for the Auditorium Patrick-Devedjian: a new, bespoke circular structure that places the orchestra at the centre of the hall and suspends a screen above it. From every seat, the spectator is immersed at the heart of the performance.

The programme features Liszt's Dante Symphony, inspired by the Divine Comedy and driven by the composer's dream of a total work of art, which he wished to extend through spectacular images that were impossible to realise in his time. That desire is now fulfilled in Mat Collishaw's immersive creation: a video projected onto the circular screen that transposes Dante's Inferno into our contemporary crises. Present throughout the programme, the voice of Magdalena Kožená – one of the most admired mezzo-sopranos of her generation – accompanies this journey through the Underworld. A foundational evening, at the crossroads of music, image and sound architecture.

This concert is performed on period instruments.
