Overview
Written a few months apart, Schumann's Piano Concerto and Symphony No. 2 paint a vibrant portrait of a composer strengthened by love.
Conductor Riccardo Minasi and pianist Vadym Kholodenko put their rapport at the service of this programme, devoted to the most romantic of the Romantics. The Piano Concerto can be heard as a (yet another) declaration to Clara, the bride of 1840.
The figure of the beloved shines above all in the first movement, where she meets Eusebius, Schumann's musical double, poetic and reserved. So many coded messages run through the Symphony No. 2, written between two periods of depression.
From darkness to jubilation, the work absorbs autobiographical material and bears witness to the composer's rebirth. The programme: MAYERFaust Overture, op. 46 SCHUMANNPiano Concerto in A minor, op. 54Symphony No. 2 in C major, op.
