Magnificat - Bach

For the festive season, let there be light! Between intimate fervour and celestial trumpets, this Christmas programme culminates in the dazzling collective jubilation of Bach's Magnificat.

To celebrate Christmas, the programme is built around Johann Sebastian Bach's Magnificat, a vast fresco of joy and light uniting choir, orchestra and soloists. Bach unfolds a collective exultation, running through moments that are more intimate, almost suspended.

In echo, two cantatas shed light on its contrasts: BWV 115, of Lutheran inspiration, invites recollection and inner listening. By contrast, BWV 191, Gloria in excelsis Deo, bursts forth like a jubilant song of praise.

Between intimate fervour and festive brilliance, this programme sketches a deeply human Bach, in which Christmas becomes at once celebration and meditation.

Conducted by Laurence Equilbey at the head of accentus and Insula orchestra, a choir of excellence and an orchestra playing on period instruments, she brings to this repertoire a knowledge and a passion of long standing. One of the season's unmissable events.
