For the holidays, let there be light! Between intimate fervour and celestial trumpets, this Christmas programme culminates with the brilliant collective jubilation of Bach's Magnificat.
To celebrate Christmas, this programme centres on the Magnificat of Johann Sebastian Bach, a vast fresco of joy and light bringing together choir, orchestra and soloists. Bach unfolds a collective exultation, traversed by more intimate, almost suspended moments.
In echo, two cantatas come to illuminate the contrasts: the BWV 115, of Lutheran inspiration, invites recollection and inner listening. Conversely, the BWV 191, Gloria in excelsis Deo, bursts forth as a jubilant song of praise.
Between intimate fervour and festive brilliance, this programme draws a deeply human Bach, where Christmas becomes both celebration and meditation.
At the head of accentus and Insula orchestra – choir of excellence and orchestra on period instruments – Laurence Equilbey brings to this repertoire long-held knowledge and passion. One of the unmissable rendezvous of the season.
