To take the place of the Empress of Rome! To achieve this, the courtesan Poppea stops at nothing. Mistress of Emperor Nero, she removes all obstacles on her path to the throne. At the cost of a breakup with her lover Ottone, the ordered suicide of the philosopher Seneca, and the repudiation of Empress Octavia, she achieves her goal: Poppea marries Nero. Poppea, Nero's mistress who ends up Empress! Busenello's incredible libretto, mixing eroticism and murderous plots against a backdrop of Rome in flames, allowed Monteverdi to write his last masterpiece. Full of invention and virtuosity, this coronation is a fascinating lyrical treasure, which Emiliano Gonzalez Toro and Mathilde Étienne adorn with the most beautiful finery, featuring a dazzling cast.
