Between oriental enchantment, romantic seduction, and biting modernity, conductor Alevtina Ioffe explores with the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France all facets of the Russian repertoire from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, whose splendours of orchestral writing often conceal a satirical dimension.

The overture to Rimski-Korsakov's opera Le Coq d’or, composed after Pushkin's tale, is an orchestral fireworks display. The orchestra sparkles with a thousand lights and brilliant irony.
