Madeleine by Stefania Tansini

How do you dance Proust's madeleine? Turning a literary idea into choreographic material, Stefania Tansini, a rising star of the Italian scene, creates a female trio of rare intensity that follows the traces of sensory memory. Drawing on the famous episode of Marcel Proust's madeleine, Stefania Tansini builds a piece for three dancers that draws on the heart of that moment when the past makes its way into the present with dazzling force. She invents a dance in constant mutation, which breaks gestures down, fragments them, until they disappear and are reborn in another form. The bodies, inhabited by multiple presences, interact with a space that becomes a playing partner in its own right, constantly altering their trajectories. Between choreographic precision and attentiveness to the environment, the dance opens up a territory where perception, memory and imagination blur together. A singular work that invites us to welcome, gently, the images, reminiscences and sensory qualities that the memory of the body awakens.
