Such a Devoted Bunch by Ruth Childs and Cécile Bouffard

Anglo-American choreographer Ruth Childs and French visual artist Cécile Bouffard explore our obsessions, bodily memory, and the survival of folklore in the contemporary world. Both an installation and a performance for three dancers, Such a Devoted Bunch questions, through gestures and objects, the mechanisms of devotion and obsession. From their first meeting, Ruth Childs and Cécile Bouffard were struck by the complementarity of their work. Since then, physical contact with Cécile's sculptures has profoundly marked Ruth's body. Guided by these forms and signs, she draws from them a freedom to play and reinvent gestures. Together, their universes dialogue around genres and styles in a sensory experience where matter, sound, and movement intertwine. This new creation by the duo brings together a whimsical community, a bunch of bodies animated by the same fervour, the same devotion. How is collective enthusiasm formed? How do our ways of belonging to each other weave together? Such a Devoted Bunch sketches a community of bodies and objects that embrace and repel each other, between intimacy and collective, belief and letting go.
