The greatest genius of this blessed period was surely Pierluigi Da Palestrina, whose Olympian polyphony magnificently emphasized the liturgical texts set to music, consolidating an illustrious tradition that Gregorio Allegri crowned with an incomparable masterpiece, his mythical Miserere, with its stratospheric high lines.
Peter Phillips and his Tallis Scholars recreate a mass office from great pages of Palestrina, including motets by masters all linked to the Sistine Chapel. There is no need to reaffirm that this ensemble will deploy the incredible vocal perfection that is its glory.
