In a few words
Mozart has been with me since childhood. I heard my mother sing his opera arias and my grandfather conduct his symphonies and requiem. On the violin (my first instrument) I worked on sonatas, concertos and duets; on the piano, fantasies, chamber music and concertos, some of which I have had the opportunity to play in concert in recent years. Yet, as a jazz musician, I had never before drawn on Mozart's work to improvise, as I have done with Bach, Brahms or Schumann. After delving into Mozart's world and even living in his shoes for a while, I wanted to record a completely improvised, entirely jazz album, to navigate as freely as possible through the themes of the great Wolfgang, drawing from the entire diversity of his immense and immortal work. In solo piano, when improvising, each concert is unique, ephemeral, and the prospect of performing this Volume II of Mozart Paradox at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées fills me with joy and emotion.
