LINE UP: ANDY NARELL steel pans JANY MCPHERSON piano/vocals ADRIANO TENORIO percussion. There's a story behind Andy Narell's choice of instrument… His father brought the steel pan to New York with the aim of encouraging street kids to join steel bands.
Having become an ambassador for this uncommon instrument, he was one of the first to bring it into jazz, giving him a unique place on the spectrum of fusion.
From calypso to world music, via big bands, not forgetting collaborations with Hugh Masekela, Michael Brecker and Mike Stern, Andy Narell keeps exploring!
This trio was no accident: with a striking voice, velvety low notes and impeccable phrasing, spotted by Nina Simone's producer, Henri Salvador and Richard Galliano, Jany McPherson shares a long musical rapport with Andy Narell, including a duo album recorded together.
On stage, the dialogue between Narell's steel pans, McPherson's piano and voice, carried by Tenorio's fiery percussion, promises a journey from the Caribbean to jazz via Cuba; a meeting of rare cultures and timbres, both intimate and explosive.
