Carlos Núñez is considered, worldwide, an extraordinary musician. His charisma, energy, and pioneering spirit have made him very popular, as he constantly pushes the boundaries of his instruments: the Galician bagpipes (gaita) and flutes. Both a prince of Galicia and king of the Celts, a virtuoso flautist and prodigious piper, nicknamed “the Jimi Hendrix of the gaita”, Carlos Núñez rehabilitates the rich musical identity of his country: flamenco, ancient Galician song, and Andalusian music from the Maghreb, all three sharing a common root. A true musical ambassador and pioneering alchemist, he takes over the legacy of intercelticism. Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, and the Basque Country are intertwined with the destiny of Celtic history. His experiences are numerous, notably with the Chieftains, Alan Stivell, and Dan Ar Braz and l’Héritage des celtes. Carlos Núñez has toured the world with Americans Jackson Browne and Ry Cooder, Brazilian Milton Nascimento, Argentinian Gustavo Santaolalla, Japanese Ryuichi Sakamoto, and greats of ancient music like Jordi Savall, or opera like Bryn Terfel. An ambassador of Celtic culture, the most Breton of Galicians has sold over a million records worldwide and has received awards in several countries. In Spain, he won the Prix Ondas for best live performance and two Latin Grammy nominations. With “Celtic Sea”, he offers a vibrant musical celebration of Celtic cultural richness, transcending borders and eras, from Brittany to Galicia via Ireland.
