Each finalist will perform one of the following concertos: Lalo (Symphonie espagnole), Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Mendelssohn (No. 2), Prokofiev (No. 1), Sibelius and Shostakovich (No. 1).
In brief
The Long-Thibaud Competition was founded more than 80 years ago, in 1943, by the pianist Marguerite Long and the violinist Jacques Thibaud. Deeply committed to discovering young performers, Marguerite Long donated her entire fortune to make the first competition possible and to ensure its longevity. Many patrons have continued her work to this day.
The first edition was held in 1943, in the midst of the conflict, as Marguerite Long wanted to give hope to young French instrumentalists under the occupation. The First Prizes went to the pianist Samson François and the violinist Michèle Auclair.
