Each finalist will perform a concerto from a selection including Lalo (Symphonie espagnole), Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Mendelssohn (No. 2), Prokofiev (No. 1), Sibelius, and Shostakovich (No. 1).
In a few words
The Long-Thibaud Competition was created over 80 years ago in 1943 by pianist Marguerite Long and violinist Jacques Thibaud. Marguerite Long, deeply committed to discovering young performers, donated her entire fortune to enable the first competition to take place and ensure its longevity. Numerous patrons have continued her work to this day. The first edition was held in 1943, in the midst of conflict, as Marguerite Long wished to offer hope to young French instrumentalists under occupation. The First Prizes were awarded to pianist Samson François and violinist Michèle Auclair.
