Le Barbier de Séville

In Seville, at the beginning of the nineteenth century, Rosine, a young orphan girl, is held captive by her guardian, Doctor Bartholo, supported by his greedy right-hand man Basile. Promised in forced marriage at the age of 18, she falls in love with a mysterious lover who courts her in secret. He is none other than Count Almaviva who, aided by his former valet, the mischievous Barber Figaro, sets out to rescue her… Following Labiche's L'Affaire de la rue de Lourcine, the Modits company returns with a whirlwind version of The Barber of Seville in which the characters are by turns passionate, lovestruck, frantic, neurotic, frightened and blinded. As a tribute to Rossini, the play gives way to musical passages that punctuate the work. Every stratagem is fair game to free a captive from her tyrant.
