Giselle - Ballet Opéra National de Kiev

Ballet in 2 acts by Adolphe ADAM - Duration: 2H20 with an interval.

« Giselle  » represents the apotheosis of the romantic ballet, considered one of the finest jewels of the repertoire. Created in 1841, its success was immediate.

« Giselle  » addresses all the themes of Romanticism: local colour and pastoral love that ends in tragedy, the irruption of a fantastical world and redemption through the power of love. The title role of « Giselle  » is one of the most demanding in the repertoire, requiring the performer, besides flawless technical mastery, qualities of dramatic expression moving from joie de vivre to despair, then to madness and passion.

The choreography was thoroughly surprising for its time, and it strikes the audience with the solidity of its structure, both in the large scenes for the corps de ballet and in the solos. This masterpiece of classical ballet is a delight for all admirers of dance, thanks to the performance of the artists of the Kyiv Grand Ballet.

It is a show for the whole family, for the little ones and the grown-ups alike, a symphony of dance, touching and marvellous.
