Overview
The MEP presents "Le temps d’une image", a new series of encounters held on the first Thursday of every month starting in September. Hosted by journalist Arnaud Laporte, this event invites a public figure to choose an image that accompanies them, troubles them, or feeds their imagination, and to unfold its multiple resonances during a forty-five-minute conversation.
For this first edition, writer Laurent Mauvignier has chosen Tereska (1948), one of David Seymour (Chim)'s most famous portraits.
Taken in a home for children traumatised by the Second World War, this photograph of a little girl with a lost gaze has become an emblematic image of childhood wounds and the memory of conflicts.
Author of a major body of work, winner of the Prix Goncourt 2025, Laurent Mauvignier has been exploring questions of memory, violence, and intimacy for over twenty-five years.
This image, which he says he knows "by heart" and which has "haunted" him for a long time, will be the starting point for a discussion with Arnaud Laporte. The encounter will be followed by a Q&A with the audience.
