Lucas et Arthur Jussen
Lucas and Arthur Jussen, pianos. An ambitious, high-flying pianistic feast from the Jussen brothers.
Overview
Lucas and Arthur Jussen, pianos. An ambitious, high-flying pianistic feast from the Jussen brothers. Bach: Chorales BWV 208, 599, 106; Kulenty: Van, for piano four hands; Brahms: Variations for two pianos on a theme by Haydn, Op.
56b; Lutosławski: Variations for two pianos on a theme by Paganini; Fauré: Six pieces for piano four hands, Op. 56 "Dolly"; Ravel: Introduction and Allegro for two pianos; Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue, version for two pianos.
In a nutshell: as children, they played before the Queen of the Netherlands. As young adults, they signed with Deutsche Grammophon. In their thirties, the biggest stages are fighting over them.
The perfect chemistry between the Jussen brothers will once again delight the Avenue Montaigne.
From Bach's devotion, among others arranged by Kurtág, to Gershwin's swing, by way of the ideas Haydn gives to Brahms and Paganini to the young Lutosławski, here again are the Dutchmen in a varied yet virtuosic evening.
If Fauré's Dolly needs no introduction, the persistent energy of Van, a toccata by Polish composer Hanna Kulenty, will prove that tonal music is not dead. Jeanine Roze Production.
