At an age when many teenagers are naturally caught up in the dreams and games of their age, he composes Mitridate, his first opera seria, on a libretto adapted from Racine's tragedy of the same name.

From the outset, the work is both a masterstroke and a significant success for his young career. Against a backdrop of a war of succession to the throne and inevitable betrayals, Mozart writes a score full of both fire and emotion.

In keeping with the conventions of the seria form, the work is brimming with virtuoso arias for each of the performers. Only the brief final quintet brings them together. Production Théâtre des Champs-Élysées
