Origines Symphonic

Sébastien Farge Quartet & the Opéra de Limoges Orchestra

8pm Duration 1h45

Accordionist and composer Sébastien Farge brings together his quartet and the Orchestre Symphonique de l'Opéra de Limoges Nouvelle-Aquitaine for an orchestral version of Origines (2022), conducted by Chloé Meyzie. Adviser to Maugein, the last French accordion manufacturer based in Tulle, Sébastien Farge maintains a deep connection with instrument craftsmanship as much as with musical composition. For his album Origines, released on the Laborie Jazz label in 2022, Sébastien Farge gathered what he held deepest within himself to give the accordion new pieces to conquer, and to affirm the beauty of this instrument and its sonic world. An approach nourished by decisive encounters, notably with Sylvain Luc, Bernard Cavanna and Roland Romanelli. Rewritten the following year for the Orchestre symphonique de l'Opéra de Limoges Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Origines unfolds in an XXL version as Origines Symphonic. Under the direction of conductor Chloé Meyzie, joined by the Sébastien Farge Quartet, the forty musicians build a sonic architecture in which the accordion serves both as soloist and as one voice among the others, illuminating the timbral richness and mechanical complexity of an instrument too often confined to its popular uses.
