In a few words

Alongside Beethoven's seventeen string quartets, his collection of ten sonatas for piano and violin forms a body of work of the highest order in terms of musical invention. Nine of them composed between 1796 and 1803, and the last in 1812, they immediately place themselves at the turning point of the 18th and 19th centuries. Nearly twenty years ago, Renaud Capuçon performed and then recorded this complete cycle with Frank Braley. It showcased both the expressiveness, elegance, and complementary playing of the two artists. This season, he is joined by the young Japanese Mao Fujita, winner of the Clara Haskil Prize in Switzerland and silver medallist at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. The French public discovered him during the 2024 edition of the Aix-en-Provence Easter Festival, founded and directed by Renaud Capuçon, where they performed a programme of trios with Kian Soltani. Here they are, face-to-face for these two Parisian engagements dedicated to Beethoven's sonatas.
