Roméo et Juliette

Roméo et Juliette Yes, Roméo et Juliette, this hit of Elizabethan theatre, still moves and stirs audiences of every generation just as much.

By making Shakespeare resonate here and now, Guillaume Séverac-Schmitz blows up the legend of the lovers of Verona with humour, fantasy and, above all, a wild energy. A pop and epic adaptation in which youth takes power!

Here is the plot in a single sentence: born into two rival families, Roméo and Juliette live an impossible love that ends in death. A tight cast, stylised staging and a new translation: Guillaume Séverac-Schmitz dusts off Shakespeare's play (1564-1616).

To better recover its essence, a story of "impatience" that belongs to youth. This fever is conveyed here through dance, singing and video, while, as a common thread, a live cello sets the poetry of the text to music.

Turning against Elizabethan theatre, which was performed by men, Roméo is played by a woman, sending the lovers far from worn-out romantic clichés. A modern and grandiose breath revives this love story, eternal and wholly timeless. Running time: 1h55
