In a few words

One of Great Britain's oldest symphony orchestras owes much of its current prestige to the years Vassily Petrenko spent at its helm (2006-2021). He restored the ensemble to its former glory by refining its sound, leading to awards and critical and public success. Today, Swiss-Venezuelan conductor Domingo Hindoyan presides over its destiny. Equally at home in both symphonic and operatic repertoires, he travels to major opera houses worldwide, including the Opéra de Paris for Rigoletto in 2024. For this Parisian visit, he has chosen an unusual programme combining Britten's Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes, a major figure in 20th-century English music, with Martucci's Canzone del Ricordi song cycle, performed here by Sonya Yoncheva, and Dvořák's Symphony No. 8, which, with its multiple wind solos, resembles, in the composer's own words, "a pretty symphony of birds."
