Steve Coleman and Five Elements

Steve Coleman continues to break new ground, surrounded by his Five Elements, loyal supporters of his bold and innovative jazz, nourished by a spiritual quest connected to the forces of nature.

Regarded as one of the most influential musicians of his generation and one of the most important saxophonists of the last thirty years, Steve Coleman is a great creator who already belongs to the history of jazz, so distinctive is the furrow he has ploughed, a path recognised by all. His integration of funk and hip hop into complex rhythmic and melodic structures has influenced a large number of current groups and makes him an essential musician.

A rhythm section radiating firepower with a phenomenal groove, and a spontaneous, almost telepathic communication between the musicians.

Some musicians enter history directly. Steve Coleman is one of them. Like Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Miles Davis... or Kamasi Washington!

Coleman's trajectory condenses a chapter of jazz history and traces its evolution. From the 1980s onwards, a pioneer and visionary, he has built bridges between jazz, funk, rap and now musical programming, opening the way for a new generation of jazzmen. A great improviser, a prolific composer and a masterful builder endowed with extraordinary creative force, Coleman shapes ambitious and inventive compositions, complex without being complicated.

Let yourself be swept up and carried along by the arcs, the sharp edges and the accomplished geometry of this emancipated jazz, free in the finest sense of the word.
