Prince Hamlet, his friend Horatio, Ophélie and her brother Laërte. What do these Shakespearean characters still have to say to us four hundred years on?
Here, they are no longer figures from the past but become four young people of today: restless, funny and possessed of a disarming lucidity. Perched on a staircase, phones in hand, they talk about power, violence, corruption and desire, using humour as a means of survival.
By setting Shakespeare against today's fault lines, Nathalie Garraud and Olivier Saccomano give voice to a lively, disillusioned yet defiant way of speaking, in which tragedy becomes a critical and gleefully insolent playground.
