Same Old Songs

"What, in your view, can be done to avoid war?" At a time when the world is wavering, choreographer Maud Blandel draws on Virginia Woolf's Three Guineas to counter the sense of powerlessness that sometimes takes hold of us, through the creation of a striking trio.

In 1938, Virginia Woolf wrote Three Guineas, an epistolary essay in which she demonstrates how war is, structurally, a male affair.

Today, as international conflicts rage, Maud Blandel takes this text as her starting point and creates a collective hallucination for three dancers, drawing on psychedelic imaginaries to overturn established structures.

Continuing the line of L'Œil nu, presented at the TPM in 2024, Maud Blandel pursues her research into sound dramaturgy, the relationships between sound and movement, and intense bodies, at times seized by rhythm, at times stunned.

In a percussive, ultra-energetic and disorganised flow, in which any attempt to march in step is deliberately sabotaged, Same Old Songs offers a heterotopia that refuses any warlike project and, in doing so, gives shape to another future.
