We all know Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Or at least the notes that open its first movement like a thunderclap tearing through the silence, the famous da-da-da-DUM! This thunderous opening is often described as fate knocking at the door.

From this handful of notes, Beethoven builds an entire symphony. This opening figure is the key to the score, the small motif from which the musical argument unfolds.

Powerfully narrative, the work surges forth like a storm at first, grows softer and more sensuous, before finally bursting out in triumph. The transformation of this initial force in the final movement symbolises the radiant power of fate.

Mathieu Herzog and the Orchestre Appassionato are your guides through the making of one of the repertoire's most legendary scores, a genuine whirlwind built from four legendary notes!
