Overview
Yamandu Costa & Guinga! Two giants of Brazilian guitar together for a unique, rare concert in Paris! These two brilliant Brazilian guitarists seem to reinvent music itself. On one side, Yamandu Costa, his seven-string guitar and his 400 fingers!
Having shared the stage with Richard Galliano, Kenny Garrett, Bobby McFerrin and the Orchestre national de France, he is an extraordinary guitarist, a brilliant improviser and a composer who fits into no single musical current.
In his playing you can sense the influence of Choro (classic 1920s samba) and Brazilian classical music, as well as milongas, tangos, zambas and chamamés.
On the other side, a genius of composition, a prodigy of guitar harmony, an inspiration like no other: a cult composer, Guinga has carved out a place of his own on the Brazilian scene, where he could be the secret son of Villa-Lobos, Tom Jobim and Cole Porter — A.
Berthod, Télérama. A rebellious son of Villa-Lobos, Tom Jobim and Duke Ellington, he is a unique bridge between erudite music and popular song.
His songs have been recorded by singers such as Esperanza Spalding, Elis Regina, Maria João, Leila Pinheiro, Paula Santoro, Mônica Salmaso and many others...
Among the collaborators on his sung pieces are some of Brazil's greatest lyricists, including Paulo César Pinheiro (Baden Powell's partner), Aldir Blanc (who writes for João Bosco) and Chico Buarque. Line-up: Yamandu Costa: 7-string guitar Guinga: acoustic guitar
