Zoot « late » sessions - Heritage jazz, late show et jam session au 38Riv Jazz Club

The Zoot Collectif draws from swing, bebop, hard bop, cool jazz… all the great aesthetics of yesterday's jazz, revisited with today's energy.

This time, Elisa Lécuyer celebrates the music and incandescent spirit of Betty Carter, a visionary singer and essential figure of modern jazz, renowned for her fierce independence and radical art of improvisation. An artist of rare freedom, she transformed the voice into a boundless field of exploration: fragmented phrasing, an elusive sense of time, constant play with silences and shifts, she reinvents each standard as living matter. Refusing conventions, she forged a singular language, both demanding and deeply expressive, where virtuosity serves an intimate and shifting narrative. Betty Carter thus established herself as a complete musician, at the crossroads of bebop, avant-garde, and reinvented tradition. The Franco-Venezuelan singer Elisa Lécuyer thrives as a storyteller of melodies. Once a month, at 38Riv, she dons her academic attire to delve into the work of one of her favourite artists. Between concert and conference, she unfolds stories and songs with the same eager and inspired momentum. She uses her impetuous energy and eloquent vulnerability to express her musicality, always serving the lyrics of the tunes she performs.
