About — The artist

Jesse Allen Breckenridge Wells, born 22 November 1992, known as Jesse Welles, is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. He released his first studio album, Red Trees and White Trashes, in 2018. Previously, he performed under the name Jeh Sea Wells. He was also the singer of the bands Dead Indian, formed in 2012, and Cosmic-American, formed in 2015, as well as of the band Welles.

In 2024, he drew attention on social media by writing and performing protest folk songs, including "The Poor", "Cancer", "The Olympics", "United Health", "Join ICE" and "War Isn't Murder", a track about the war in Gaza. Vulture describes his music as "a mix of old-school folk signs and topical populism, delivered in catchy short clips on social media several times a week". He has been described as a modern Woody Guthrie.

In 2026, he received four nominations at the 68th Grammy Awards, without winning in any category.
