About — The artist
Mono, stylised MONO, is a Japanese post-rock band from Tokyo. All their tracks are instrumental and generally based on guitar melodies. However, piano and string instruments appear on some of their pieces, often long movements brimming with raw emotion, deeply introspective, exploding into sometimes wild but always instrumentally controlled breaks.
Mono has nine studio albums. The band spent its early years between 1999 and 2003, touring Asia, Europe, and America non-stop, and released two albums during this period, Under the Pipal Tree (2001) and One Step More and You Die (2002) on Tzadik Records and Music Mine Inc., respectively. Between 2004 and 2007, Mono signed with Temporary Residence Limited, released two more albums, Walking Cloud and Deep Red Sky, Flag Fluttered and the Sun Shined (2004) and You Are There (2006), and toured internationally. In 2008, the band took a break, returning a year later with a new album, Hymn to the Immortal Wind (2009), also released on Temporary Residence Limited.
