About — The artist

The Pogues are a British folk rock band from London, England. They achieved success during the 1980s and 1990s. Specialising in Irish folk music (even Celtic music), the band often played with the energy of the punk rock scene, from which several band members originated.

Their unique, politically charged music was partially inspired by The Clash, with whom they had played (Joe Strummer produced one of their albums and later became the band's singer for a time). The Pogues use traditional Irish instruments such as the tin whistle, banjo, mandolin, and accordion, among others. After Shane MacGowan's departure, electronic instruments like the electric guitar became more common.
