Fauré's Last Love

Fauré's love affair with Marguerite Hasselmans, a witness to the last twenty-four years of the composer's life, inspires pianist Aline Piboule and writer Pascal Quignard to an intimate conversation between music and words. From their meeting in 1900 until the composer's death, Marguerite Hasselmans was a distinguished performer, a close friend and an everyday confidante, observing Parisian musical life as well as the maturing of Fauré's oeuvre. Pianist Aline Piboule, well accustomed to encounters between varied worlds through her instrument, and writer Pascal Quignard, whom music often inspires, lend their voices to an intimate programme interweaving period piano and narration. A secret face of the French master emerges, reconstructed through the overlaying of extracts from an abundant correspondence, unpublished texts by the writer, who also narrates, and late pieces with romantic contours.
