Fauré's romantic relationship with Marguerite Hasselmans, who witnessed the last twenty-four years of the composer's life, inspires pianist Aline Piboule and writer Pascal Quignard to create an intimate conversation between music and words. From their meeting in 1900 until the composer's death, Marguerite Hasselmans was a performer of choice, an intimate friend and a daily confidante, observing both Parisian musical life and the maturation of Fauré's work. Pianist Aline Piboule, accustomed to encounters between varied universes with her instrument, and writer Pascal Quignard, often inspired by music, lend them their voices in an intimate programme articulating piano – period instrument – and narration. This reveals a secret side of the French master, recomposed by overexposing extracts from extensive correspondence, unpublished texts by the writer, who also narrates, and late pieces with romantic contours.
