In a few words

First Prize winner of the Tchaikovsky Competition in 2015, the few appearances the Russian pianist has made in France so far have garnered nothing but praise and acclaim. This was the case during a stunning Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 performed with the Orchestre National de France in 2020, followed by his first recitals at La Roque-d’Anthéron, the Philharmonie de Paris, and here at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. This season, he embarks on the challenge of performing Rachmaninov's complete piano works over three recitals. The majority of Rachmaninov's piano works were composed in the first half of his life before the 1917 revolution. His style asserted itself from the Pièces de l’opus 3 (1892), developed in the Moments Musicaux op. 16 four years later, and reached maturity in the Préludes and Études-Tableaux (1902-1916). This evening marks the first encounter, where Masleev creates a dialogue between Rachmaninov and Mendelssohn.
