From thesis to book, there was only one step. From book to show, the theatre adaptation conceived four-handed by Liora Jaccottet and Adèle Yon invites the audience to travel through the stages of this road trip into the past, which seeks to approach, by every means – testimonies, psychiatric archives, correspondence – the mystery of an interned ancestor, a great-grandmother diagnosed as schizophrenic, lobotomised and erased from the family landscape. Of Betsy, never named by her true name, nothing was said. But the silenced women make themselves heard in other ways.
